Knowledge acquisition is the phase in the development of an expert system or other AI system during which knowledge is gathered and represented. Knowledge may be gathered explicitly knoweldge elicitation from experts, or form other sources such as documentation, historic data or logging of ongoing expert use. The form of knowledge represention may vary and be aided by an expert system shell.
